How to play
Everything you need to go from "what's a Monster kit?" to "I walked the King across the map and we won".
Join the server
- Start Minecraft: Java Edition +26.2.
- Go to Multiplayer → Add Server and paste the address.
- Join. You land in the lobby, and that's it: you're playing.

The lobby
Your hotbar in the lobby has its tools. They can't be dropped or lost, so click away.
- Compass: join the queue for a match (click again to leave). Shift + right-click turns on auto-queue, which puts you back in the queue after every match.
- Sword: jump into the lobby's PvP arena and fight with any kit you own while you wait. Your queue spot is safe: your match pulls you out when it starts.
- Nether Star: the menu. Maps, the Class Store, cosmetics and more.
- Player head: your friends, your party, your profile and friend codes.
- Comparator: your settings. Your language, the other players in the lobby (shown or hidden, just for you), how health shows under names, which menus open by themselves and more.
A match, step by step
- The queue fills. When enough players are waiting, a match starts. Each match gets its own fresh copy of the map.
- Modifier vote (sometimes). Pick a twist for this match, or none, or All Random if you like surprises.
- Pick a kit. Everyone starts on Random (or on the default kit chosen in their settings); pick a kit to replace it. Random draws one of the kits you own when the time is up.
- Guards prepare. The Guards spread out and build defences around the King (a villager). The Monsters wait in their waiting box, unable to see a thing.
- Countdown. Everyone is held on their start spot. Look around, plan your route, breathe.
- Fight! Monsters hunt the King; Guards stand in the way. When you die, you respawn after a short wait.
- The end. Monsters win the moment the King dies. Guards win if it's alive when the timer runs out. Everyone earns gems, and one player is crowned MVP.
Monsters also get a guide on their scoreboard that points to the Guard Base (where the King started), never to the King itself. The Guards may have moved it. Sneaky.
Kits and gems
A kit (the game calls it a class) is a set of items, armour, health, Mana and abilities. There are Monster kits and Guard kits; you pick from your side's.
- Gems are earned in matches: for kills, for the King kill, for winning, and just for taking part. A Monsters' win pays a bit more, because it's harder.
- The Class Store (menu → Class Store, or
/mvg store) sells kits for gems. A kit you buy is yours for good. - Test Kit: try any kit for free in your own private practice arena, with a training dummy that never dies. Nothing you do there counts.
- Layouts: moved a kit's items where you like them?
/mvg layout saveremembers it for that kit.
The Guard Commander
When the Guards start preparing, one of them becomes the Commander and gets the Move Villager wand:
- Right-click a block to mark it (only Guards see the mark).
- Double-click (or crouch and click) to order the King to walk there.
- Left-click to clear the mark.
The King can only go so far from where it started (the Commander gets a little more room than the other Guards), and the Commander keeps the wand during the match, so a good Commander can dodge a Monster push at the last second.
Fighting, Mana and dying
- Every kit has exact health and damage numbers; armour is for looks. Your health and Mana are on the bar above your hotbar.
- Abilities cost Mana and have cooldowns (shown right on the item). Mana refills on its own; glowing Mana Potions on the map give you extra.
- Every player also gets a ping staff (last hotbar slot): point at something and your team sees a marker. Great for "the King is HERE" moments.
- When you die, you watch the spot where you fell for a moment, then respawn with your kit.
- The MVP is whoever earned the most in the match. If they own an MVP song, everyone hears it. Songs are bought with Stardust (or won from crates).
Modifiers
Optional twists for a single match, like Chaos, Low Gravity, Sudden Death. They're voted on (or drawn) at the start and vanish when the match ends. See them all.
